Revolutionising Blue-Collar Recruitment: The Story Behind On Demand Hire

21 Aug 2025

In a world where finding or filling a job in the blue-collar sector can often feel like searching for a needle in a haystack, On Demand Hire (ODH) was born out of a simple but powerful observation. Time and again, we noticed people posting on social media that they were either looking for work or looking to hire, often in the very same trade or location. This constant mismatch of opportunity inspired us to create a platform that connects blue-collar talent and businesses directly, efficiently and locally.

A Platform Built for the Trades

On Demand Hire is designed with a specific audience in mind: blue-collar workers and businesses across industries such as painting, construction, cleaning and many more. Our users are typically aged between 20 and 55, often self-employed or holding an ABN, and working across housing developments or regional projects in Australia. Whether it’s a short-term gig, long-term work or project-based needs, ODH makes it easier to find or fill local jobs quickly.

By simplifying the connection process, we’re helping small to medium-sized businesses meet deadlines and enabling skilled workers to find flexible income opportunities. More importantly, we’re giving blue-collar professionals a dedicated space to network and grow their careers – something that’s long overdue in this sector.

Overcoming the Chicken-and-Egg Problem

Like many two-sided platforms, one of our biggest challenges has been ensuring that both sides – businesses and workers – are equally engaged. After all, one cannot function without the other. We’ve tackled this by focusing on real relationships, word-of-mouth referrals and building a community of users who see the value in direct, local connections.

What Makes ODH Different?

One key thing most people don’t realise is that ODH isn’t like other task-based platforms. We don’t take a cut from each job posted or completed. Instead, we encourage users to connect, exchange contact details and build lasting working relationships. Our platform is B2B-focused, with a strong emphasis on ratings and reviews to help users build credibility and secure more work over time.

Looking Ahead

Our immediate focus is launching across Melbourne, using local marketing strategies such as radio, morning shows and personal referrals to grow our user base. However, our vision is much bigger. We believe the ODH model can be scaled nationally and, eventually, globally as a better way to connect blue-collar talent with the businesses that need them.

Meet the Founders

ODH was founded by Kagan and Olcay, two lifelong friends with a shared passion for solving real-world problems. Kagan brings 12 years of experience in transport and logistics, working his way up to Business Development Manager. Olcay, on the other hand, has a more hands-on background, with over a decade of experience in construction, traffic control and roof plumbing.

Their friendship began 18 years ago through a shared love of video games and anime – interests they still enjoy today. Both are now married, with Olcay expecting his second daughter later this year. The pair remain driven by a mission to redefine recruitment for the blue-collar industry.

With On Demand Hire, Kagan and Olcay are committed to challenging the status quo, making hiring simpler, faster and more personal for everyone involved.
